GOLD STAR PLANTATION has been in operation for seven years and thanks to our customers, we expect this year to be another great one. The preserve season runs from October 1, 2002 through March 31, 2003 and we are open seven days a week.
Many improvements have been made over the summer. Feed plots of peas, millet, and soybeans have been planted. We have opened up and expanded the hunting areas for easier access. Our shooting preserve of 500 acres can easily accommodate more than one party at a time.
GOLD STAR is located approximately 35 minutes from Birmingham in western Jefferson County. This makes GOLD STAR convenient to residents of Jefferson, Shelby, Chilton, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Cullman, Bibb, and Blount Counties. We have accommodated hunters from Alaska to Florida.
The Warrior River borders the actual hunting preserve. The land is varied, including piney woods, open fields, food plots, and hedgerows. All the acreage is designed to make a hunt at GOLD STAR a memorable one, with realistic, natural cover and hard flying birds. We are excited about a new line of birds. They are the closest to wild birds that we have ever seen. You will have to see these birds to believe it. No more running, kicking, or throwing your caps, folks. HAVE YOUR GUN READY!
Those interested in booking a hunt may telephone 205-674-7244. The price is $125 for a twelve (12) bird hunt lasting approximately four (4) hours. Should you desire an all day hunt, prices are available upon request. We still provide a guide and excellent trained dogs for your hunt at no extra charge. However, you are welcome to bring your own dogs. Every customer is given individual attention.
From October through March, we are also hosts to the National Bird Dog Challenge Association field trials on the second Saturday of every month. Bring your dogs and enter, come and watch as a spectator, or watch the fun on TV.
We thank those who have hunted with us in the past years, and we invited those of you who have never been to GOLD STAR out for a fine quail hunt.
